1909-22c. Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co., Pittsburgh, PA., U.S.A. 56" Antique Ceiling Fan, Fully Restored, Copper Verde Finish, Mahogany Finish Original Blades.
This model enjoyed a relatively long life in the Westinghouse line up. Early versions of this fan were manufactured in Pittsburgh when they spelled it Pittsburg. Westinghouse originally offered this model in two finishes. The standard being a black japan enameled finish and the optional molted copper oxide finish.
The unconventional movement (the entire center section of the motor revolves) of this model creates a unique atmosphere and allows this model to be installed on lower ceilings.
Period company literature proclaims " The Westinghouse ceiling fans have proved a very great success owing to their effectiveness as well as to their ornamental design. These fans are very economical to operate, requiring only about the same current as two standard incandescent lamps."
Our featured antique Westinghouse 56" was fully restored for a client's wonderful historic home located in North Texas. This fan has an interesting local Texas history. We purchased this unit from the former owners of a Denton, Texas radiator shop that was located near the downtown square. The former owners told us that the fan had spent several years in the radiator shop cooling customers and workers alike. When we inquired about any other known history of the fan, the former owners told us that the fan had been originally installed in the old Ever's Hardware Store building and after its replacement with later model fans in that store, it began its duty in the radiator shop.
