1912-15c. Dayton 48" Antique Ceiling Fan

1912-15c. Dayton Fan and Motor Company, Dayton, OH., U.S.A.,
48" Antique Ceiling Fan, Oxidized Satin Nickel

Around 1912c., The Dayton Fan and Motor Company manufactured this model to compliment its full size ceiling fan and to complete their line-up with their new AC fans. Previously the company had purchased alternating current ceiling and desk fan motors from Westinghouse and had them labeled with the Dayton name. This was a common practice among many early manufacturers, especially those that were a smaller manufacturing firm.

The 48" alternating current ceiling fan introduced about the same time as the Titanic, proved to be a wonderfully engineered model that was of Dayton's own design. The cast iron motor casting on this model has a unique heart shaped design on top that is exclusive to the 48" model, though it also shares the unique half diamond scroll on the bottom plate and oil cup casting of its larger sibling. It is also rumored that this version could be chain hung, though we have never personally purchased an original one.

This model can be outfitted with blades of custom length to provide a sweep of 40" through the standard sweep of 48", making this a very versitle model when a 52" span may be too large for a space. As with the 60" model, the 48" version was supplied with several blade bracket variations during its manufacture. For this reason, the fan could have either a top of the blade bracket or a bottom of the blade version. Please specify your preference and will will do our best to accomodate your wishes. This model is available in limited supply. Please contact us for availability.

The 48" Dayton has a distinctive ornamental styling that will complement many interior decors including Victorian, Arts and Crafts or Bungalows.

We custom restored this antique Dayton 48" ceiling fan for an historic Manhattan New York home. The Vintage custom oxidized satin nickel finishwas chosen by the home owner who also specified a golden oak finish on the solid mahogany blades. Our compliments to her for a striking design blend that compliments the fan and its new home interior. A few of the 1912c.
